Payment
Most writers guidelines have you stroll to the bottom to see what the payment is for writing an article. We wanted to place it up front and to also be upfront. We are a new magazine and currently our compensation for writers is free samples for your portfolio and a by-line in a national magazine. If you are willing to help us take our magazine to the masses we hope to change our policy to include monetary funds in the near future. Our Audience
REAL DAD Magazine is a parenting magazine designed for fathers. This includes fathers who are married, single, divorced, stay-at-home dads, and dads who travel frequently. Our readers are fathers who have children between the ages of 0-12. We want to help fathers connect with their children and to be an integral part of their family. When writing an article for us ask yourself, "Why would a father want to read this article?" Please have a good answer for that question.

What type of articles do we want?
Let's first cover the type of articles we do not want. We will not publish promotional articles that covers one particular product. We also do not want essay-type articles where you as a writer want to get some things off your chest. You may have a good article but it may be good for another publication.

We are seeking articles that are entertaining but also factual. Each article should include interviews with two or more experts in the field you are writing about. For example if you are writing an article on disciplining your child, your article should include quotes from say a child psychologist and/or a physician who specializes in children. One good way to find experts is to search Amazon to see who may have written a book on the subject you are covering and contact the author's publisher.

Length of articles
Articles should be at least 1000 words in length. We are flexible on the length but include that in your query. We also ask for articles to include sidebars or graphics that may help illustrate the article.

Submission Process
Please do not submit articles. You can submit queries with a link to your writing samples. When you query us tell us how you would write the article, what experts you would interview (includes names) and how long will it take you to complete the article.

If your article idea is accepted, you will receive an e-mail asking you to submit your manuscript; this does not guarantee that the completed manuscript will be accepted for publication. NOTE: All articles should be submitted via email in Microsoft Word format.

REAL DAD Magazine will maintain all rights, including electronic rights, in perpetuity.
